Students can work off final exam frustrations next week with a hip-hop class taught by a nationally known artist.

Excel Garner, who has performed on Def Comedy Jam and has also worked with many celebrities such as Ashanti, will teach a master class 11 a.m. Dec. 12 in the NE Campus gym. At a recent hip-hop master class he conducted, 71 students attended.

The NE Dance Club is turning the event into a community service for the Assessment Center of Tarrant County, said Dr. Linda Quinn, a dance teacher for the past 27 years.

The Assessment Center of Tarrant County provides a safe haven for children from birth to 12 who have been removed from their homes because of abuse from their families.

” [Excel] is an excellent teacher and choreographer. He also has a passion for helping children,” she said. “Excel actually called me with the idea to step up this master class to provide gifts to the Assessment Center.”

Attending this program will cost $5 if the participant brings a pair of pajamas and/or toys to donate to the Assessment Center. Without a donation of pajamas or toys, students will have to pay $10.

” Excel Garner will provide excellent instruction for our students,” Quinn said. “This class will give these students the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of local families in our community.
