With his latest CD What I’m For, Texas country artist Pat Green proves he can adapt to the Nashville sound while keeping true to his Texas roots.
And while his hard-core Texas fans might not like that, the CD proves his appeal to a wide audience.
The lead single, “Let Me,” shows his seldom-seen softer side. And it quickly soared to the Top 20 on the charts, quite a breakthrough for an artist with the Texas tag.
The title cut is a simple song about all the things the artist likes in life, such as Texas margaritas and the simple things we all enjoy. “You don’t have to know what I’m against if you know what I’m for,” he sings.
The highlight of the CD, though, is a song called “Country Star,” which makes liberal use of several country-music stars by dropping their names in the song.
In Green’s own words, found in the liner notes of the record, it is a direct response to the Nickelback hit “Rockstar.”
And, sellout to the Texas music scene or not, “Country Star” is exactly what Green will become.
