NW career services will host Jobs Series this spring to train students in career readiness.
“There is no real class or course for students to take regarding how to prepare for the work industry,” NW career services coordinator Tracy Williams said. “This series acts as a class that is going to equip students with the tools they need from job searching to the interview process.”
The series will have five sessions once a month. The sessions cover subjects such as cover letter and resume development, soft skills strategies, interviews, business etiquette and networking.
“Many students don’t know how to properly write up a resume, how they’re supposed to dress for an interview or what soft skills really are,” she said. “We want to teach them about time management, emotional intelligence, how to research companies before they even send in their resumes. All of these things are tools in making students more confident and successful when they go out to pursue jobs.”
The sessions are independent, so if students can’t make it to one, they can still go to the others without fear of having missed anything.
“The sessions are stand-alone, but they all tie in together,” she said. “It’s hard to not talk about cover letters and resumes without talking about the interview process and vice versa. This information is important enough that it deserves to be repeated.”
Williams said career services is willing to repeat the sessions as often as needed and wants to work with the students for times that’s best for them. Career services even offers times for students to come in and do practice interviews there.
“We can’t tell you exactly what every possible job interview will require you to wear or what exact situations might come about, but we can equip students with how to find the solutions to those problems and how to be prepared,” she said.
