With finals just around the corner, whether students started studying a month ago or have been procrastinating, TR Campus has an answer — lock them in.
The TR Phi Theta Kappa chapter is partnering with the Student Government Association and the Tahita Fulkerson Library for the Library Lock-In Exam Cram.
A previous SGA president who once worked in the library asked PTK to coordinate a lock-in so students could truly study.
“[PTK students] had been wanting to partner with other clubs on a project, and the current SGA team were eager to participate,” chapter adviser Danelle Toups said.
SGA was happy to participate and provide the pizza while PTK will provide snacks and water. The library is furnishing the coffee, staff and advertising.
This is a pre-registration event and will stop once 60 students have registered. Though this will indeed be the first lock-in, the PTK chapter hopes to have a good turnout to continue the event next year. Due to limited seating in the library, organizers established the cap for registration.
“It is meant to be a quiet place for students to come and study, and we do not want any extra distractions,” Toups said.
Research shows that studying quietly and in a good environment can help people retain information.
The whole idea of this lock-in exam cram is to give students a quiet place to study and retain the knowledge they need to succeed in their exams, Toups said.
