March 31 NW Campus music faculty will showcase their talents in the Faculty Midday Recital at 12:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall (WFAB 1105). Faculty will perform vocal and instrumental pieces, some solo, others in duets or ensembles. Admission is free for everyone.
March 31 Dada Day, a celebration and exploration of arts and all that could be art, will be in the NW Campus Lakeview Gallery and Recital Hall (WFAB 1105) 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Students and faculty will show off objects of art as well as speaking, dance and theater performances. Students interested in performing or exhibiting a piece should e-mail frederick.spaulding@tccd.edu. There is no deadline for entering a piece.
Now-April 1 Fresh Visions: Renegade Artists Exhibit of Experimental Art will be on display in Carillon Gallery in the Joe B. Rushing Center for Performing Arts on South Campus. The show features the works of Joy Anderson, Jean Baker, Lee Bowman, Diana Faver, Martha Howell, Martha Ragsdale and Mary Lou Osborne. Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Thursday.
Now-April 3 Organic Metal, an indoor/outdoor exhibit by artist/blacksmith and sculptor Richard Baggett, is on Trinity River Campus. The exhibit will be on display both on the grounds and in the gallery. The hours are 9 a.m.-9 p.m. seven days a week.
Now-April 10 Lerner and Loewe’s Brigadoon opens at Artisan Center Theater in Hurst. The musical takes place in a magical Scottish village that appears only once each century. Into their midst arrive two American hunters, whose appearance can alter their lives. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday with a 3 p.m. Saturday matinee. Now-April 24 Sleeping Beauty and her Prince Charming arrive at Hurst’s Artisan Center Theater. Fairies must use their magical power to save Princess Aurora on her 16th birthday from an evil sorceress. Performances are 10 a.m. Saturdays. All tickets are $5. April 6 NE Campus music department presents a Sophomore Recital starring Keitia Jackson on the saxophone. The recital consists of two different groups of pieces. The first will feature Jackson on the tenor saxophone and Stan Paschal on the piano playing “Two Dances and an Air” by G.F. Handel, “Berceuse” by J. Ed Barat and “The Entertainer” by Scott Joplin. The second group of pieces will be played on alto saxophone and include “Sonata No. 6” by G.F. Handel, “Sicilienne” by Pierre Lantier and “Syrinx” by Claude Debussy. The recital is 7:30-8:10 p.m. in College Hall (NCAB 1111) and is free and open to the public.
April 7 The Sammons Center for the Arts presents Bold & Brassy, which will feature two bands: the opening group, The Akira Sato Quintet and the second set, The Inner City AllStars. This will be The Akira Sato Quintet’s first appearance at the Sammons Center for the Arts. The Inner City All-Stars is a New Orleans-style brass band led by Calvin Sexton. Ticket prices are $35 for general admission and $30 for members and include complimentary wine, beer, soft drinks, coffee, light appetizers and valet parking. April 7 South Campus students must submit entries for the 2010 Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition to their instructors or to Joshua Goode. Students must show proof of South Campus enrollment from fall 2009 or spring 2010. All media are eligible. The first three entries are free, but any additional entries are $5 each. Pieces must be ready to hang when submitted along with an application form and any fees.
April 9-10 NE Dance program presents Dance … Out of the Box. The formal dance show and will feature 170 students, a mixture of the TCC NE dance company, Mover’s Unlimited Touring Company, students enrolled in dance classes and faculty members. The styles of dance include jazz, hip-hop, classical ballet, modern, tap dance and salsa, which will be performed with a live band featuring music students. The program includes a few styles of ballroom dancing such as the fox trot and waltz. NE faculty and administrators Larry Darlage, Jane Harper, Antonio Howell, Donna Gardner, Buzz Gardner, Bart Desender, Lynn Fieser and Linda Quinn, the dance coordinator, will perform in the ballroom piece. The opening piece is called “Latin Rhythms” and will feature Flamenco, tango, classical ballet and salsa. The finale, “Amazing Grace,” will include dance as well as spoken text performed with music. Tickets are free for all TCC students, faculty and staff with a valid ID. General public tickets are $5 and must be purchased at business services. Performances are 7 p.m. April 9-10 and 2 p.m. April 10 in the NFAB in the Theatre.
April 12 NE music department presents a Faculty Recital starring Jan Ryberg on guitar. This program will include a variety of styles such as classical, popular and his original works. His son and sister will also perform. The recital begins at 7:30 p.m. in NSTU Center Corner.
April 15-29 Carillon Gallery presents 2010 Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition in the Joe B. Rushing Center for the Performing Arts on South Campus. All pieces are by students enrolled in South Campus 2009-2010 art classes. Hours are 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Thursday. Admission is free.
