Research from home promoted

By Casey Parkhurst/reporter

Students dreading long hours in the library to finish an assignment can stay home, a NW librarian said during the NW Student Success Conference Sept. 14.In Doing Research in Your PJs, April Martinez said students can access TCC’s library database from their homes and never have to go on campus to obtain research information from the library.

Martinez advised students to give librarians the correct contact information when they have questions.

Students can also go to the TCC library website and click on Ask a Librarian.

Another website resource is LibGuide, which can help students find research information for their classes.

“The LibGuide is basically a one-stop shop,” she said.

Students can use the search box on the library home page to look up electronic books as well.

“Make sure your professor will consider an e-book as an actual book,” she said.

Students can also access the library’s streaming video collection to discover how long a video is or to save favorite videos to a playlist, but she warned that some take a while to download.

“Don’t go streaming the video collection if [slowness] frustrates you,” she said.
