The TR Campus ASL club will sponsor two showings of In the Can, an all-sign language film, Feb. 22 in the Energy Auditorium (TREF 5308). The first showing will include subtitles.
The comedy includes an all-deaf cast and is rated PG-13.
The film follows Nicky, a young man trying to make it big in Hollywood by directing his first major film. However, the production process proves more complicated than he thought. Chaos ensues.
ASL associate instructor Deborah Sisley said this showing will provide good exposure for ASL students.
While non-ASL students may have difficulty following the story, it will still help them understand deaf culture, Sisley said.
The Signum Lingua ASL club will host other events throughout the semester, including a picnic fundraiser where members will sell candy. They also host a dinner every month where hearing students are encouraged to interact with the deaf.
Showings are at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Tickets cost $11 and will be sold in the language lab and at the door. Popcorn, candy and drinks will be available for purchase. All proceeds go to the ASL club.
