Camp offered for transfers in chemistry

Up to $4,000 will be provided to students pursuing a chemistry degree at San Antonio’s Our Lady of the Lake University.

The university is offering chemistry Boot Camp for community college students. Students accepted to the program will take part in an undergraduate research program over two summers. The program is designed to enrich their academics and also improve mathematical, scientific and research skills.

“ By completing the program, students will have the necessary skills for graduate and professional school or for the technical job market,” Robbie F. Kouri, Boot Camp project director, said.

The first summer session will include course and laboratory work with computer sessions. The second summer will have students working on an undergraduate research project.

A university faculty mentor or an off-campus investigator will assist the students with their research. The students participating will continue to receive support through their college years while attending OLLU.

The program is funded by the Department of Education under the Minority Science and Engineering Improvement Program (MSEIP).

Our Lady of the Lake University founded in 1895 by the Congregation of Divine Providence is a co-educational liberal arts institution.

With a small student population of 2,800 students, OLLU staff can provide one-on-one attention.

For more information about OLLU or about the chemistry camp, call 210-434-6711, ext. 268,3 or visit the Web site at www.ollusa.edu.
