TCC communicates exclusively through CampusCruiser

By Rylie Parkins/reporter

In an effort to improve communication between faculty and students, students will no longer be contacted through personal e-mail accounts but through CampusCruiser only.

This policy, put in place last semester, is the administration’s way not only to effectively contact students but also to reduce the risk of privacy violations.

“Our first objective was to provide a means to more effectively and dependably deliver important information to students. A TCC-provided e-mail address responds to all of these challenges,” said Dr. Cathie Jackson, associate vice chancellor of student development services.

For a number of years, students were given the option to provide their own e-mail addresses. This became an issue because some students submitted e-mail addresses while others did not.

Also, many students changed their personal e-mail addresses and failed to notify the TCC system, resulting in a large quantity of undelivered e-mails.

Using CampusCruiser also reduces the risk of privacy violations.

“Privacy is always a prime consideration of the college. We have a number of systems in place to guard against privacy violations,” Jackson said. “Unfortunately, it’s impossible to provide 100 percent guarantees, but we are always working to avoid, address and readdress violations.”

As CampusCruiser and this policy are still reasonably new, there are a few exceptions to this policy, namely for new students and prospective applicants.

“We still encourage applicants and prospective applicants to provide a personal e-mail address when making first contact and/or submitting an application for admission,” Jackson said. “We can thus make contact prior to issuance of the CampusCruiser e-mail address. Information about the CampusCruiser e-mail address is included in the Letter of Acceptance.”

With the exception of applicants, all students should expect to receive all class and campus information via CampusCruiser.
