A day of intramural soccer on SE Campus got off to a bumpy start when the first game was forfeited because members of Team DTP did not bring IDs and schedules to prove their eligibility to play.
Not wanting to waste an opportunity to play soccer, DTP and opposing team Chelsea FC played a consolation game that left Chelsea FC the winner, 2-1. This brings Chelsea to a record of 2-1 for the season while DTP has dropped to 0-2.
In the second game, team Random Peeps pulled out an upset in its game against Pinewoods Apartments, winning 7-5. Pinewood showed the ball-handling skills of its seasoned players were no match for the heart shown by the Cinderella team of the day’s games.
“There was good teamwork, and we made some good decisions in a winning effort,” said David Rodriguez of Random Peeps.
Plagued by the wind, the teams surprisingly managed good ball control. Adefemi Odeyemi of Pinewood Apartments showed great ball-handling, juking opponents whenever he touched the ball. Several players on both teams would pair up for a play with one player stealing the ball and a teammate moving the other way with it in an attempt to score.
Unfortunately, it seemed every time the ball went up in the air, the wind either sent it sailing above the goal or off to the side.
The game was not short on penalties with both teams getting their fair share. Even after borrowing a goalie from Team DTP, Pinewoods didn’t seem to show the potential it showed last week.
Chelsea FC looks to go undefeated this week as DTP will try to get its first win of the season. Random Peeps will play DTP at 9 a.m. and Chelsea FC will face Pinewoods Apartments at 10 a.m. April 11, the last game before the single-elimination tournament April 18.
