Dancers return to roots at Theatre Northwest

By Hope Sandusky/nw news editor

The NW Mosaic Dance Project and Northwest Dance Company, along with several different dance classes, will perform A Return to Home April 9-11 in the WTLO Theatre Northwest.

The theme of the performance is centered around the company’s return to NW Campus, where the program first began.

The formal performance was previously held at the Scott Theater in downtown Fort Worth for several years.

After the company celebrated its 15th anniversary last season, the group decided to bring the performance back to NW Campus, dance associate professor Amy Sleigh said.

“This has made our concert more accessible to our administrators, faculty, staff and most importantly, our student community,” she said.

Dance student Josette Bailey said the move allows them to remember the roots of the program.

“We are coming back to where it all started 16 years ago,” she said.

The performance will feature a wide variety of dance styles, from modern dance to hip-hop, and are choreographed by faculty members and former TCC dance alumni.

The performance also includes three local high school dance programs that will join on various days to perform.

“This brings in even more involvement with the community and really allows everyone to bond,” Sleigh said.

There will be four performances, one at 7:30 p.m. each night as well as an additional performance at 2 p.m. April 11.

Sleigh said she is excited for the performance to return to Theatre Northwest.

“It is exciting for our dancers to move into the theater for a week and prepare for the performances, and it is a joy for our dance faculty to indulge in our home theater,” she said.

General admission will be $7. For more information, contact Sleigh at 817-515-7174.
