SE Campus wrapped up its intramural sports for the semester with its swimming challenge Nov. 20 featuring the 50-yard two-stroke, 100-yard medley, 25-yard free, 50-yard free and big splash.
For the women, Pamela Teran won the 50-yard free. Adrien Dubose won the 50-yard two-stroke and the 25-yard free, and Charlotte Jones Rodriguez won the big splash.
In the men’s competition, Chris Bode won the 25-yard free and the 50-yard two-stroke. Spencer Grazzianne won the 50-yard free and big splash, and Wilfred Presley won the 100-yard medley.
Presley, a member of the swim team, said he enjoyed the challenge with some of his teammates.
“It’s always fun whenever we’re all together,” he said. “I just wanted to come out to have fun and do my best.”
Many experienced swimmers competed in the challenge, like Grazzianne, who has been swimming competitively since high school. His experience played a big role in his success.
“It was cool to come in first in the 50-yard free,” he said, “especially since I hurt my shoulder earlier this week lifting weights.”
Bode, another experienced swimmer, is a part of the swimming class.
“I like my swimming class so much,” he said. “I just wanted to come out and compete.”
All participants received T-shirts, and the top men and women received gym bags and Speedo swim towels.
Swimming instructor Evelyn Parkhurst and kinesiology instructor Shahzad Nazir organized the event. Parkhurst said she was proud of how well the participants did.
“I was very excited to see how the event turned out,” she said. “We had some great competition.”
Nazir registered a total of 233 athletes for all fall SE intramural sports.
“We ended up having a great semester,” he said. “We’ll have basketball and soccer leagues next semester, so hopefully there will be even more participation.”
