SE Campus set to put attention on architecture

SE students are celebrating Architecture Month on SE Campus and in the community.

Students started the month with a design competition. Participants created chairs primarily from cardboard although they could use other materials to improve strength.

The judging criteria included the ability to support the weight of a 125- to 175-pound seated person, aesthetics and original design. Although not a requirement, stackability of chairs was given special consideration. Contestants were also judged on their presentations, craftsmanship and creativity. Winners will be announced at an April 25 lecture.

A panel spotlighting three emerging Fort Worth designers/architects will discuss their work 7-8:30 p.m. April 13 in ESEE 2316. Panelists include Richard Hunt, Chris Hall and Bart Shaw.

Students can get a firsthand feel of architecture with a walking tour of downtown Fort Worth April 16. Participants will meet at 1 p.m. at the Tarrant County Courthouse steps. RSVP is required.

Architects Chris Miles and Peter Pfeiffer will present The Path to Net Zero Homes at 7 p.m. April 20 in the NE Campus J. Ardis Bell Library. Reservations are required.

The SE architectural technology program’s guest lecture series will host Bernbaum Magadini Architects at 7 p.m. April 25 in the ESEE North Ballroom. Bruce Bernbaum and his partner Patricia Magadini are known for their contemporary style and have been successful in the Metroplex. This event is open to the public.

Tom Manganiello will lecture at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth at 1 p.m. May 1. Manganiello is a Fort Worth architectural designer and SE adjunct architecture instructor. Anyone can attend the free presentation.

For more information about these and other events and to RSVP, contact Arnie Radman, SE architecture instructor, at 817-515-3620.
