UTA guest to discuss photo work

The TCC photography club will host an artist lecture at 6 p.m. April 21 in the NSTU Center Corner on NE Campus. Guest speaker Scott Hilton will talk about his life and work.

Hilton is a photographer, an associate professor at Collin County Community College and a senior lecturer at the University of Texas Arlington. He has a bachelor’s degree in studio art from the University of Nevada at Reno and a Master of Fine Arts in creative photography from California State University.

He was recently named president of 500X Gallery in Dallas, and he will speak on NE about his most recent exhibit showcased at the gallery.

The show exhibited his photography using antiquated processes.

Hilton said what sets his work apart is that he uses 19th century processes similar to those of the famous Civil War photographer Matthew Brady.

“It is unique because all of the processes are handmade,” he said.

This means he mixed the chemistry and created the photographs with his own two hands.

TCC photography lab manager Mike Penland said Hilton’s visit will be beneficial to students.

“It will expose students to a successful working artist,” he said. “It will expose them to an antique photo process.”

The event is free and open to the public.
