NE art students have begun to submit their paintings, photographs and other artistic works for the annual juried art show that will go on display in the Haltom City Northeast Center April 10-29.
NE art associate professor Suzanne Perez, who helps jury the show, said it typically sees a number of students participate.
“We usually have submissions ranging from students anywhere between, on average, 20 to sometimes 35,” she said. “It depends on the quantity of students we have, but it varies.”
The winners will be announced on April 13 with students who place in the top three receiving gift cards of $150, $100 and $75.
NE student Robert Sparks, who will enter the contest with his work “Abstracting of Self Portrait,” said he was inspired by his love of painting.
“I just love to paint, honestly, and I like messing with the human form,” he said. “I’ve painted a lot of people, and I decided to paint a few self-portraits. As I kept painting them, I’ve started abstracting the human form.”
Sparks said he’s looking forward to seeing what other artists have submitted.
“I like being in a competitive atmosphere, but at the same time, it’s nice to see what everyone else is doing and communicate with other artists,” he said.
