Military Days

Along with branches of the military, the Dallas Mavericks dancers and The Beat radio station came out to celebrate Military Days on NW Campus.

Students shot footballs and basketballs through goals set up by the Dallas Mavericks Street Team and the Army.

The goal set up by the Mavericks Street Team was a large inflatable shoe with a basketball goal in the middle.

The Army’s football throw had a lifesize image of a soldier in action.

DJ Big Stretcha of The Beat said the radio station was there to show support for the military.

“We’re here to show a lighter side of the military. It’s not so much going off to war and dying,” Stretcha said.

Stretcha also said the radio station wanted to give students a fresh look at the

military.

“A lot of people have apprehensions when it comes to the military,” he said. “They have misconceptions, so we try to come out and get rid of the misconceptions that a lot of people have.”

Staff Sgt. Mitchell Thompson said the Army wanted to promote the armed forces as well as spend time with students.

“We’re here not only to give information about the Army but also making sure everyone has a break from their day-to-day schedule,” Thompson said.

Larry Hines of the Mavericks Street Team said going out to colleges is important to the Dallas Mavericks.

“We are here to let students know that the Mavs really care about college students and the community,” Hines said.
