Oct. 5 TR Campus’ Habitat for Humanity will be involved in the annual Cowtown Brush-Up 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Brush-up participants paint homes deteriorating because of financial and physical inability of homeowners to maintain them. The event is open to students, faculty, staff and the public. Sept. 25 Robert M. Edsel will discuss Saving Italy: The Race to Rescue a Nation’s Treasures from the Nazis 7-8:30 p.m. in the C.A. Roberson Theatre on SE Campus. His new book covers the true story of the race to save the world’s greatest masterpieces. The event is free and open to the public. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Sept. 25 The NE Campus history and philosophy department and student activities will sponsor Student Leadership Academy: Elements of Leadership 12:30-1:30 p.m. in NSTU 1506. Sept. 25-26 SE student activities is hosting a Phi Theta Kappa Career Day 11 a.m.-3 p.m. in the North Ballroom. Students will declare their major, hear community members speak about their careers and what it takes to hold their level of employment. Sept. 26 The TR Campus Men of Color Mentoring 2013-14 Kick Off will be held at 4:30 p.m. in Action Suites A-C. The event will feature Luis Ponjuan, Texas A&M University associate professor of higher education administration. Sept. 26 The SE library hosts guest speaker Mike Wuller 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the library (ESED 1200). Wuller, director of food research and development at Best Maid Products in Fort Worth, will discuss his company’s products, business cases, customer trends and potential careers in food research. Sept. 26 The TR Campus library will sponsor a discussion of George Orwell’s 1984 noon-1 p.m. in the TRTR Energy Auditorium as part of Banned Books Week. The week is to support the right to read and discuss books that were challenged in the past. Lunch will be provided for attendees. Sept. 27-28 TCC student activities will host an overnight Leadership Retreat at Camp Grady Spruce on Possum Kingdom Lake. The retreat focuses on building student leadership skills through various activities. Sept. 30 The NW Mosaic Dance project will hold a car wash to raise scholarship money for TCC dancers 10 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Cars needing a wash can enter though the north parking lot by WACB. Donations will be accepted.
