SE Campus gears up for 4 days of Student Success Seminars

SE Campus hosts its annual Student Success Seminars Sept. 13-16.The four-day event features several seminars that can assist students who are trying to find a way around campus.

Seminar topics cover financial aid, WebAdvisor and CampusCruiser, note taking and successful transfer planning.

Three seminars occur on each of the four days with events beginning each day at 8:30 a.m. in the North Ballroom. Monday topics are Your Campus, Your Resources, College Costs 101: Financial Aid and Scholarships and Vital Campus Services. Guest speaker Narissa Knight, a TV anchor/reporter for CBS 11, will talk to students about maximizing their success.

SE academic advisor Renetta Wright said Knight is a good speaker for the Student Success Seminars because of her experience in broadcasting.

“Every year, we look to bring someone who can motivate the students,” she said. 

On Sept. 14, the seminars continue with The Best Way to an “A”—Know Your Learning Style, Navigating WebAdvisor and CampusCruiser and Health Programs Advisement and Updates. Assistant professor of computer science Earnest Gines is the presenter for Navigating WebAdvisor and CampusCruiser. Gines will discuss the how to and when to use CampusCruiser and WebAdvisor. Gines will also give tips on how the sites can be used to review a transcript and run a degree plan.

On Sept. 15, events include the Campus Meet and Greet, Help! My Notes Are a Joke!, The Organized Student: Setting Goals and Time Management and Math Survival Guide. SE psychology instructor Susan Cruise’s Help! My Notes Are a Joke! gives note-taking strategies.

The last seminars Sept. 16 include Test Taking, Characteristics of Highly Effective Students and Successful Transfer Planning.

Counselor Mike Eason presents Test Taking while English instructor Benita Reed gives the Characteristics of Highly Effective Students.

Students planning to transfer to a university can attend the Successful Transfer Planning seminar. SE academic advisor Casey Ramos will help students through the process of selecting a college, choosing a major and applying.
