Students putt forth effort in competition

By Diana Silva/reporter

Student golfers hit the links last week on SE Campus for a closest to the pin competition.

Participants of the contest included members of the SE Campus Monday-Wednesday golf class and other students who received extra credit for their physical education classes.

Before the competition began, SE intramural coordinator Danny Aguirre explained the rules of the event.

“Each student will put their name on their ball and warm up, and they only get to try once,” he said.

“After all, that is the point of closest-to-the pin.”

Students were divided in two groups, one playing Nov. 9 and the other Nov. 13.

Nick Ferro placed first Nov. 9 while George Ochieng placed first Nov. 13.

Only first and second places were awarded.

Ochieng received first place overall and a new golf club.

Ferro won second place, earning a bag with golf balls.

Ochieng said he takes the golf class with Aguirre.

“Students from Aguirre’s class didn’t have to sign up. It was just part of the class,” he said.

“I’ve never been on an intramural before, but I really regret it.”

Everyone who took part in the contest received a small package of golf balls.
