Thirteen faculty members were awarded tenure, effective fall semester, at the TCCD Board of Trustees meeting last week.

To be considered for tenure, the faculty member must be full-time, hold a position with the rank of assistant professor or above, serve a probationary period of not less than four years and have received consistently favorable performance reviews for the previous years.

South Campus professors awarded include Dr. Staussa Ervin, assistant professor of psychology, and Laurel Kendrick Harris, assistant professor of nursing.

Awarded from NW Campus is Jessica Overstreet, assistant professor of history.

NE Campus professors awarded tenure include Lisa Benedetti, assistant professor of speech, and Francisco Perez, associate professor of English.

Professors from SE Campus awarded tenure include Bethanye Bagby, assistant professor of biology; Patricia Clough, assistant professor of English; John Dement, assistant professor of drama; Dana Ferrara, assistant professor of art; Jose “Frank” Maldonado, assistant professor of mathematics; Dr. Daniela Stoevska-Kojouharov, associate professor of mathematics; Dr. Hung Q. Vu, professor of biology, and Jason Wooten, assistant professor of physical education.

The board awarded a contract to NextWave Wireless for the leasing of Educational Broadband Service Television Channels, previously leased by Sprint/Nextel, in exchange for an up-front payment of $2.6 million for the first year.

“ TCC has a license with the FCC for the four channels, and we are leasing them to NextWave,” Rick Heyser, assistant director for instructional support services, said. “[NextWave] is paying TCC to use the spectrum.”

Capital improvement bids were approved including awarding contracts for the South Campus Bookstore construction, SE Campus expansion, renovation of the NBSS building on NE Campus and exterior signage and lighting for all campuses.

Chancellor Leonardo de la Garza also reported discussions with UTA’s chancellor about giving a tuition break in the future to students graduating from TCC who are transferring to UTA.
