The SE Campus library was renamed the Judith J. Carrier Library in honor of the first president from SE Campus’ opening in 1996 until her retirement in August 2011.
Carrier was well-known by faculty for her commitment to the SE library.
“From what I understand, the library was her favorite place on campus,” current SE president Bill Coppola said.
Part of her efforts to keep the library well-maintained were making sure its budget remained sufficient and encouraging students and faculty to take advantage of the library’s resources.
“She made it very clear to the faculty and to the community that the library was very important as part of the educational process,” library services director Jo Klemm said.
One of the last things Carrier did before retirement was have a section of the library glassed to be used as a silent study area.
“She was thinking about future students right before she left,” Klemm said.
