NW Campus seminar to give students 12 laws of success

NW Campus will present First in the Family: 12 Laws of Success for First-Generation College Students 12:30-1:30 p.m. Oct. 29 in the Michael Saenz Conference Center (WACB 1123).

This event is open to all students, but it would probably appeal more if “they are the first person in their immediate or extended family to pursue a college degree,” counselor Brentom Jackson said.

This presentation will help first-generation college students deal with the stress, pressure and responsibility that go alongside this new endeavor. Being a first-time college student is a huge accomplishment in itself, Jackson said.

“And these things are a lot easier to understand if a family member who is familiar with the process can help you through it,” he said.

The seminar will provide tips for being successful in college and dealing with the strain that can occur. It will help students prepare an easy-to-follow accomplishment plan.

“I hope the students see me as relatable and informative, like an older brother or relative,” Jackson said.
