Four teams advanced to the semifinals in the SE Campus intramural basketball championship.
The title will be decided March 12. The first semifinal at 9 a.m. will be between the BTA Bulls and the Starshooters. At 9:45 a.m., Strap City will play the Jammers in the other semifinal. The winners of those two games will face off at 10:45 a.m. for the championship.
The tournament got off to a dynamite start March 5 with seven dedicated teams aiming for the four semifinal spots.
In the first game, BTA Bulls managed a close matchup against the Free Agents with a score of 50-32.
BTA Bulls player Andrew Bustillos was excited to be moving on to the semifinals.
“It feels good,” he said. “I mean, I’m one step closer to winning it all.”
The second game began with the Lambos taking an early lead against the Starshooters and keeping it through the first half. The Starshooters pulled ahead in the second half pulling off a hard-earned win, 31-26.
“They’re pretty good,” Starshooters player Dietrich Fry said. “You can’t take ’em lightly. You take ’em lightly, that’s how you get the L.”
Game three had another close match with TBL taking an early lead over Strap City in the first half. Strap City managed to get ahead in the second half to earn the win, 50-39.
“I feel great,” Strap City player Mike Howell said. “I feel like we’re the best team, and we’re going to take it.”
Because of the odd number of teams, the fourth game had the undefeated Jammers vs. Starshooters, who volunteered to play a second game of the day. What followed was an intense neck-and-neck game ending with the Jammers seizing victory by a single point.
Jammers player Jorge McGee isn’t too worried about his team’s capabilities in the finals.
“We’ll see,” he said. “I feel confident that we’re going to get the win.”
