African-American, Hispanic-American and Anglo-American labor coalitions are not what typically comes to mind when thinking about the civil rights movement in Texas.
But that is what Max Krochmal, assistant professor of history at Texas Christian University, is coming to TCC to talk about. Krochmal will be on TR Campus noon-1 p.m. Feb. 23 in TREF 2105 discussing his new book Blue Texas.
Blue Texas is about “the gradual process of coalition building, of coming together,” Krochmal said.
As part of Black History Month, Krochmal will focus on how African-American labor unions played a role in civil rights here in the DFW area.
After 10 years of research, Krochmal said he wants to bring his viewpoint and studies to TCC students and show them how ordinary people helped shape the struggle for civil rights in Texas.
Copies of the book will be available for sale and signing at the event.
