Film Club to host first student-run film festival

Students can win money at the first TR Film Club-organized film festival 3-6 p.m. Dec. 14 in the Energy Auditorium.

The festival invites students from all disciplies to submit their short films of any genre. The films must.be under 10 minutes long and meet the guidelines for appropriate content.

Films will be approved and judged by local actor Al Dias, local filmmakers Chip Tompkins, Joshua Gallas and Douglas Davidson and screenwriter Shawn Stewart.

Participants will meet with judges to receive constructive feedback and network. The meeting will be held 2-5 p.m. Dec. 13 in the TR Campus Idea Store. Food will be provided, and the filmmakers will have a chance to watch all submitted films and vote.

TR Film Club vice president Junichi Royal said since this is the club’s first film festival, it took a lot of effort but is special to them.

“We have put many thoughts and ideas to make this happen,” Royal said. “I am looking forward to this film festival.”

Club president Everton Melo said he hopes all participants and the audience have a good time at the festival.

“I am really excited with this whole event,” Melo said. “Our goal is to grow the filmmaking community at TCC.”

The deadline for students to submit their work is midnight Dec. 11, and awards will be given in different categories. The top three overall films will receive cash awards. The festival is free and open to the public.
