Now-March 21 The Kimbell Art Museum offers a survey of art history with From the Private Collections of Texas: European Art, Ancient to Modern. The exhibit includes more than 100 paintings and sculptures, most previously unseen in public. About half of the works usually hang in private homes. The museum is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday and Saturday, noon-8 p.m. Friday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday. Tickets for this exhibit range from $10-14 with half-price tickets Tuesdays and Fridays after 5 p.m. Children under 6 are free. Admission includes the Acoustiguide Audio Tour. Now-March 27 Thomas Seawell: A Printmaker’s Ceramics is on display in the Lakeview Gallery. A guest artist, Seawell had been doing prints for years when he decided to try working with his wife’s ceramics supplies. The gallery is open 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free. An artist reception will be 11 a.m.-2 p.m. March 27 in the gallery.
Now-April 1 Fresh Visions: Renegade Artists Exhibit of Experimental Art will be on display in Carillon Gallery on South Campus. The show features the works of Joy Anderson, Jean Baker, Lee Bowman, Diana Faver, Martha Howell, Martha Ragsdale and Mary Lou Osborne. An artists’ reception will be 6-8 p.m. March 11 in the gallery in the Joe B. Rushing Center for Performing Arts. Regular gallery hours are 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Thursday.
Now-April 3 Organic Metal, an indoor/outdoor exhibit by artist/blacksmith and sculptor Richard Baggett, opens on Trinity River Campus. The exhibit will be on display both on the grounds and in the gallery. The hours are 9 a.m.-9 p.m. seven days a week.
Now-April 10 Lerner and Loewe’s Brigadoon opens at Artisan Center Theater in Hurst. The musical takes place in a magical Scottish village that appears only once each century. March 10 The NW Campus Faculty and Guest Artist Dance Performance will be in Theater Northwest. The student price is $1, general admission is $5 and TCC faculty and staff are free. TCC dance instructors as well as the Contemporary Dance Fort Worth and the Texas Dance Theatre will perform.
March 12-April 9 SE Campus brings The Art of Magic: Paintings, Drawings and Lithographs from the collection of Ash Adams. Gallery hours are 7 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. All exhibits are free and open to the public.
March 15 The Jupiter String Quartet with violist Roger Tapping will perform at SMU’s Caruth Auditorium. The group consists of two violinists Nelson Lee and Megan Freivogel, violist Liz Freivogel and cellist Daniel McDonough. Some awards the Jupiters have received include first place in the Banff International String Quartet Competition, grand prize in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and Chamber Music America’s Cleveland Quartet Award. The performance starts at 8 p.m. Regular tickets for this show are $35 and $15 for students who show their ID at the door.
March 26 The NE Campus Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Warren Dewey, will perform 7:30 p.m. in the NFAB Theater. The concert will include a diverse selection of music, including Brazilian and African. The free concert is open to the public.
March 29-30 NE Campus music department will have a faculty dress rehearsal and recital of “Carnival of the Animals” by Camille Saint-Saenz. Preschool-aged children are invited to attend and color pictures of animals 10:15 a.m. Monday in NSTU Center Corner while listening to the piano playing of Karen and Doug Parsons, and the poetry reading by Eric Devlin of Ogden Nash that correlates to the music. The recital performance, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in NSTU Center Corner, is open to the public. Admission is free. Reservations are not required.
March 31 NW Campus music faculty will showcase their talents in the Faculty Midday Recital at 12:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall (WFAB 1105). Faculty will perform vocal and instrumental pieces, some solo, others in duets or ensembles. Admission is free for everyone.
March 31 Dada Day, a celebration and exploration of arts and all that could be art, will be in the NW Campus Lakeview Gallery and Recital Hall (WFAB 1105) 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Students and faculty will show off objects of art as well as speaking, dance and theater performances. Students interested in performing or exhibiting a piece should e-mail frederick.spaulding@tccd.edu. There is no deadline for entering a piece.
April 6 The NE Campus Music Department presents a Sophomore Recital starring Keitia Jackson on the saxophone. The recital will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the College Hall. The free event is open to the public.
April 7 The Sammons Center for the Arts presents Bold & Brassy, which will feature two bands: the opening group, The Akira Sato Quintet and the second set, The Inner City Allstars. This will be The Akira Sato Quintet’s first appearance at the Sammons Center for the Arts. The Inner City Allstars is a New Orleans-style brass band led by Calvin Sexton. Ticket prices are $35 for general admission and $30 for members and include complimentary wine, beer, soft drinks, coffee, light appetizers and valet parking.
