Administrator to present global warming talk on SE

By Rema Atiya/se news editor

The Tree Campus USA celebration continues April 22 as SE Campus holds The Challenge of Global Warming presented by Dr. Timothy Gilbert, associate vice chancellor for teaching and learning.

“I will be talking about climate change science and why it is occurring,” Gilbert said. “Also I will be briefly talking about what we can do about it.”

SE Campus is trying to become a campus involved in taking better care of the environment around the school, Gilbert said.

“I have done a climate change presentation for SE Campus in the past, and climate change is very much an issue important to any green initiatives that are underway,” he said.

Staying green is just what Gilbert had in mind when he went out of his way to inform people of global warming.

“I am a trained presenter for the Climate Project organization, started by Al Gore to create a grassroots movement to educate people about climate change and global warming,” he said. “I attended a two-day training session in October of 2008, led by Al Gore and several scientific experts, to become a presenter.”

Gilbert has always had a love for the earth and the sciences that study it and wants to inform people so they too can understand global warming.

“I attended the training because I was already convinced that climate change was occurring and wanted to be part of trying to do something to change it,” he said.

Gilbert will make his presentation twice 10-11:20 a.m. and 7-8:30 p.m. in the North Ballroom. It is free for anyone who would like to attend.

“It is a wonderful idea that SE Campus becomes part of the Tree Campus USA program,” he said. “It is a way of addressing green initiatives and educating people about the need to develop sustainable lifestyles.”
