South Campus kicked off its six-team men’s basketball tournament Feb. 23.

Each game had two 18-minute halves. Even though six teams were scheduled to play, the second game resulted in a forfeit because a team didn’t show up.

Team 3 and Team 6 played a gritty first game, resulting in a 62-58 win for Team 3.

South student Anthony Terrell said his team lost because of a slow start and couldn’t make a late comeback.

“The first team we played, we lost to them,” he said. “But they were pretty good competition. Hopefully, everything turns out.”

Team 2 and team 7 played in the final game. Both teams turned the ball over many times in the first half and lacked much ball movement.

looked rusty. Many players said since most of them had never played with each other, the teams lacked cohesiveness.

“Everybody is playing sloppy. Everybody is tired,” said South student Cort Robinson. “It’s the first game. People don’t know what defenses to run or who’s starting.”

The game picked up in the second half, resulting in a 46-37 win for Team 7.

South health physical education instructor Michael Daniels said South Campus could have a stronger tournament with more teams involved.

“My point is where we get it to 10 to 15 teams,” he said, “so the more teams you have, the better intramural program you can have.

“That’s my whole big deal right now is to push more teams than what we have.”
