NE workshop talks about communicating

Students who want to learn more about their personal style of communication and how to communicate better with others can join NE Campus speech instructors Debi Blankenship and Jamie Kerr for an interactive seminar.

As part of a series of workshops sponsored by student activities this fall, Communicating Effectively: Know Your Style will focus on teaching students their communication styles and ways to handle conflict and express themselves more effectively.

“There are distinct communication styles, and everybody has their own,” Blankenship said.

“If students know their own style of communication and how to handle conflict, they can understand the other styles and how to better understand others.”

By attending the seminar, Blankenship said students can learn how to communicate better in all relationships — with the boss, coworkers, teachers and even irritating people in the workplace.

Students will participate in an exercise including questions about how to communicate and handle conflict.

Blankenship has a bachelor’s degree in speech, theater and education and a master’s degree in business communication. She is beginning her 10thyear of teaching speech at TCC.

Kerr received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in communication arts and has taught speech classes at TCC for the past five years.

Students can attend the event 12:30-1:30 p.m. Sept. 30 in NSTU Center Corner.
