SE Campus’ art department presents Rachel Bounds’ Buried Sunsine art exhibit through March 5 in Art Corridor II.

“I’ve followed the artist Rachel Bounds for several years, and her paintings are very strong. They not only present a solid painting technique but also have strong content,” said curator Christopher Blay.

Bounds’ displayed work is a collection of paintings, drawings and mono prints using a variety of materials.

“The exhibit presents a very rich opportunity for students of the arts, literature and science. The paintings have a narrative quality that encourages students of writing and literature to approach those elements,” Blay said. “Also, the botanical and geological aspects of the subject matter will be interesting to science majors.”

Bounds’ art stands apart from others in the way she embraces the various techniques of drawing, painting, printmaking and installation art, Blay said.

“I think this is a very strong exhibit by a complex artist, and the work reflects that,” he said.

Blay said the exhibit illustrated how different materials are used to create different works of art.

“This can be an exciting exhibit for every student on campus,” he said.

The free exhibit is open to the public. Exhibit hours are 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.
