Historian to explain tactics

By Judah Bucy/reporter

NW students will have a chance next week to learn about military tactics—a subject often considered controversial.

Dr. Adrian R. Lewis, department chair of history at the University of North Texas, will present Military Tactics from Vietnam to Iraq Wednesday, Feb. 13. He will discuss the range of military tactics and operations between the two wars.

Sponsored by the social sciences department, “the speech is intended to draw some comparisons between the Vietnam War and the war in Iraq,” Dr. Laura Wood, department chair, said.

Lewis’ presentation will begin at 10:10 a.m. in WSTU 1303-1305. Admission to the program is free.

“This program is one of many we are doing this year as part of our commemoration of the 40th anniversary of 1967-68,” Wood said.

Lewis holds a doctorate in European and military history from the University of Chicago. He is the author ofOmaha Beach: A Flawed Victory, published in 2001. He has taught at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and was published in the Journal of Military History, Vol. 62.

“I think it will be very interesting and enlightening for students,” Wood said.
