Marketing job skills taught at workshop

NE students learned how to market transferable job skills in a workplace skills workshop Nov. 29.

Besspher Mannah, NE career services student development associate, showed students how to acquire and apply learned skills in the workplace.

“For career purposes, this is an opportunity to boost yourself and highlight what makes you valuable to the company,” Mannah said.

Mannah broke down marketable skills into categories: communication, research and planning, human relations, organization, management, leadership and work survival.

“Transferable skills aren’t necessarily directly related to the job in question but can be applied to a wide range of jobs and industries,” he said adding that computer literacy, time management, motivation, delegation and presentation are all key skills an employee must possess.

“I thought it was pretty good,” NE student Tyler Yarasi said. “It focused a lot on how to market your own skills.”

Mannah said he hopes the presentation helps students find a way to utilize their skills in a way that will be beneficial to them.
