NE tosses flying discs in games

Students looking for a fun, new way to get the adrenaline rush of a competitive sport, as well as maintain a healthy, active lifestyle can soon begin taking part in an ultimate Frisbee competition on NE Campus.

The event will take place on Sept. 28 at 1 p.m. on the football field west of the tennis courts. Entries are due by 12:45 p.m. the day of the event.

The number of student participants will determine how the competition is bracketed.

“ We’re real adaptable on that,” Kevin Harper, NE HPE instructor said. “If we can get enough people to show up to make up five or six teams, we’ll bracket it off. If we only get about 10 or 15 people, we’ll just have individual contests.”

Invented on a college campus, the sport was a hit with Harper’s students at the University of Texas-Arlington and on SE Campus.

“ I used to teach a fitness class at UTA where we did a lot of different activities, and ultimate Frisbee was the most popular one we had,” he said.

“ Plus, I also used to teach on SE Campus, where an ultimate Frisbee class is being taught.”
If throwing the old Frisbee around seems like a fun time, this may be the sport to try.
