Campuses set series of events

TCC campuses will celebrate Constitution Day Sept. 16.

Also known as Citizenship Day, Constitution Day has its roots as far back as the 1940s. However, in 2004, Congress designated Sept. 17, the day of the signing of the U.S. Constitution in Philadelphia, as the official day and required all educational institutions that receive federal funding to hold educational programs.

NE Campus will host Constitution Day: A Focus on Civil Rights 11:15 a.m.-12:10 p.m. in the cafeteria in the Student Center.

NE government instructor Leigh-Anne Regenold will give an introduction and an overview of the Constitution.

Guest speaker Manuel Rendon, national vice president for young adults of the League of United Latin American Citizens, or LULAC, will speak about Latinos and civil rights.

That same day, TR staff will hand out pocket-sized copies of U.S. Constitution and Interesting Facts About It at the end of Main Street across from the coffee shop. The books are first-come, first-served.

SE students can pick up a free copy of the Constitution 9-11 a.m. in the Bistro.
