SE offers Affordable Care assistance

By Mathew Shaw/se news editor

Students can receive help with their Affordable Care Act applications March 4 in the SE Campus Commons.

“We know our area has been identified as having a large number of uninsured,” SE health services coordinator Liz Lowry said. “We want to offer an opportunity to reach more students and community members before the [March 31] deadline.”

According to The Dallas Morning News, half of the nation’s uninsured live in just 116 of the country’s 3,143 counties, including Tarrant. These statistics are based on 2011 census data.

The website for the Texas Medical Association, www.texmed.org, states young adults ages 19 to 34 are among the groups most likely to lack health insurance, based on data from the Congressional Budget Office.

ACA representatives will be in the SE Commons 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Applicants must bring a Social Security number or document numbers for legal immigrants.

They also need employer and income information for every member of the applicant’s household who needs coverage as well as policy numbers for any current health insurance plans covering members of the applicant’s household.

Application assistance will also be available 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays until March 19 and 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Fridays until March 29 in the SE Campus health services office (ESEC 2118).

For more information about the event, contact Lowry at 817-515-3591 or elizabeth.lowry@tccd.edu.
