NW talk to focus on rise of modern Hollywood film

By — Lauren Gordon

Ryan Ferguson, NW supplemental instruction coordinator, will present 1970s Cinema: New Hollywood and the Rise of the Modern Blockbuster Oct. 28.

Ferguson said he is passionate about 1970s cinema because it was an interesting time due to social upheavals that ended up influencing movies.

“The directors were baby boomers who began to reject the old Hollywood standard,” he said.

Ferguson will focus on three main movies in his presentation: The Godfather, Jaws and Star Wars.

Ferguson wants students to learn about the culture that was shaping these films and the way it transformed the film industry.

“The ’70s changed the way Hollywood thought they could make movies and ushered in the new Hollywood blockbuster,” he said.

The presentation will take place 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Walsh Library on NW Campus.

The free presentation is available to all TCC students.
