NE Campus student activities will sponsor a geneticist 6-7:30 p.m. Feb. 5 in Center Corner (NSTU 1615A).
Sam Rhine’s specialty is iPSCs, or induced Pluripotent Stem Cells, human skin cells that have been converted into stem cells and then with correct direction form any type of cell in the human body.
The resulting cells may be used to replace cells that have been lost or destroyed by disease, study a disease cell type in a laboratory petri dish, screen hundreds to thousands of drugs for medical therapy and produce human tissues.
Rhine will be working with local high school students 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Feb. 5 in Center Corner (NSTU 1615A).
