The SE Poetry Club is giving students an opportunity to showcase their literary skills and abilities in its annual poetry slam 2-4 p.m. April 5 in the library classroom.
All students are invited to present original poetry in a three-minute performance. Five finalists will be chosen for a second three-minute round, from which three winners will be chosen and awarded prizes.
Public service librarian Judy Reardon said students, staff and faculty should attend because poetry is an interactive experience that helps participants bring out their inner performer.
“This is an opportunity for them to show us who they are outside of the classroom and to share their talents and deeper thoughts,” Reardon said. “Participants also develop their public-speaking skills and self-confidence.”
The poetry slam coordinators hope attendees see students in a different context than in the classroom and hear each student’s expressive abilities.
The number of performers is limited to 20, so students should register to compete now. To register and/or get a copy of the competition rules, contact Reardon at judy.reardon@tccd.edu or 817-515-3081.
