Students gathered for the first Phi Theta Kappa and Student Government Association town hall meeting Oct. 19 in the NE Campus library.
The town hall gave students a chance to meet NE Campus President Allen Goben to ask questions, voice concerns and receive direct feedback.
The event kicked off with a video informing students about past events that NE hosted and ended with a musical video from the fictional NE band Momentum, which showcased in a lighthearted way what the TCC district offers students.
Goben shared the vision he has to enhance campus life by modernizing the library and making it into a commons by turning the second floor into the main library space and moving the learning support space from NACB to the first floor.
During a Q&A session, Goben answered concerns and questions from students ranging from the cost of education and supplies like books and software to building new restrooms outside to accommodate the campus’ sports programs.
When asked if the town hall was helpful for students and faculty to have an open forum, Goben responded that it was.
“By having this venue where someone can feel comfortable asking questions about having a restroom by the tennis courts, we can put this on our project request and see if it’s possible to make that happen,” Goben said.
First-year student Meesha Robinson also said the town hall was helpful.
“The town hall gives students a place to come, meet and ask questions to hopefully get them answered,” she said.
PTK and SGA members were happy how the event turned out and are hoping to use the experience to make the next town hall meeting on Oct. 26 bigger and better.
PTK member Miguel Madrigal spoke on how he wants to achieve this goal.
“We know what to look for after we read the evaluations,” he said. “And we will adjust as needed.”
