Day of golf raises funds

Golfers can play to help students pay for college in the Marine Creek Collegiate High School Scholarship golf tournament April 7 at the Iron Horse Golf Course in North Richland Hills.

Anyone over 21 can participate, whether novice or seasoned.

Jennifer Pate, who coordinates Marine Creek’s Advancement Via Individual Determination program, said the nonprofit organization works to help students wanting to pursue a college education.

“This was created as a way to start a college fund to offset the cost of continuing education after graduation,” Pate said.

AVID puts on the tournament to provide financial support to students to help with student loans and out-of-pocket costs.

Golf packages are available to purchase for single players for $125 or teams of four for $100 a player. The package includes full access to the driving range, a golf cart, lunch and two beverage tickets. Teeoff is at 8 a.m. Lunch and awards will follow.

Pate said AVID is still accepting tournament sponsors.

“We are taking sponsors as they come, so if you feel a calling, please consider being a sponsor,” she said. “It’s really about helping the kids. That’s what this is all about.”
