Campus to host job fair

Job seekers can meet with prospective employers May 2 at the Cinco de Mayo Job Fair on NW Campus.

The event will be held 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in WSTU 1303 and 1305. Over 40 employers will be at the fair with on-the-spot interviews and possible job offers, said Workforce Solutions communications and events unit director Lacey Douglas.

Job seekers can learn what positions are open in different industries and the relevant skills and education required, she said.

The city of Fort Worth, Cook Children’s, FedEx Ground, Six Flags, Ben E. Keith and UPS are some of the employers that will be there. Attendees can get one-on-one time with employers and learn more about thousands of job openings, Douglas said.

The job fair could change students’ minds about what job they want, said NW career services coordinator Tracy Williams.

“They may not know they want a job somewhere, but they may talk to somebody and find out, ‘This is exactly what I want,’” she said.

Williams encourages attendees to bring an updated resume with them. Students can visit career services in WSTU 2818A to receive resume help.

“The job fairs are a really good resource that is underutilized by TCC students,” Williams said. “I’m really hoping that they’ll start attending them more as just part of their education so that they’ll know what employers are expecting.”

Williams also encourages attendees to consider what they’re going to wear if they’re serious about seeking employment.

“At least show up in long pants, real shoes and a nice shirt to show you made an effort because that impresses an employer,” Williams said.

Job seekers can attend whether they’re seeking full- or part-time work, said NW student development specialist Cassie Fennel.

“And then they also can kind of get their feet wet in career searching,” Fennel said.

Douglas said more events are at workforcesolutions.net.

“If you miss this event, we have lots of job fairs planned around Tarrant County, all of them are free,” he said.
