Gallery features student artwork
NW Campus student talent is on display until Aug. 24 as the first exhibit of many opens in the Lakeview Gallery (WFAB 1135A) this semester.
The exhibit includes artwork from the spring semester and remained installed throughout summer into the fall, said NW art associate professor Christian deLeon.
“We keep it up for the first week of school because new students can get a taste of what the best of NW has to offer, maybe provide some inspiration, and to give a lot of classes an assignment for an art writing analysis paper,” he said.
The featured artwork includes many forms of art such as ceramics, drawing, painting, watercolor, photography, mixed media, sculpture and video.
DeLeon explained that the gallery does its best to keep exhibits back-to-back to avoid the walls being “blank.” The next exhibit will showcase artwork from NW faculty Sept. 3-Oct. 5.
Ceramic artist Barbara Frey’s work in clay will be on display from Oct. 8 to Nov. 1, and there are plans for Frey to give a gallery talk.
The semester will finish with Quattro from Nov. 12 to Dec. 14. Quattro is an exhibit where student artists can create large works covering a specific site in the gallery with a budget of less than $100. Student artists will submit proposals and be selected by a faculty jury.
