The SE fine arts department is hosting the Grand Studio/Homecoming! Committee exhibit now through Nov. 2 in Art Corridor II.

“Our 2017-2018 exhibition schedule launches a yearlong exploration of collectives and artist friendships in Fort Worth, adding a chapter to the catalog of Texas art 1990-2015,” said SE instructional associate Christopher Blay, who is also the exhibit’s curator.

The series opened with Fort Worth Collectives, 1990-2015: Grand Studio, Blay said.

The visiting artists featured in the exhibit are Christopher Bond, Ryan Goolsby, Courtney Hamilton, Timothy Harding, Shelby David Meier, Devon Nowlin and Tiffany Wolf Smith.

“The artists in Grand Studio have worked together for at least five years and currently work out of a shared space on Grand Avenue in Fort Worth,” Blay said. “Their most notable collaborations were the Homecoming! Committee, an art collective working in Fort Worth from 2011-2014.”

The exhibit focuses on where the artists’ works form connections and how those connections reflect their own studio practices, Blay said.

For example, Nowlin’s figurative paintings that explore consumer culture and lifestyles intersect with Smith’s sculptures and installations, which respond to feminine identity and the curiosities of domestic spaces, Blay said.

“The push and pull of these relationships can also be seen in Shelby David Meier’s conceptual installations and unconventional use of materials and Timothy Harding’s paintings that are a heavy nod to minimalism, Abstract Expressionism and the spatial considerations of architectural theory,” Blay said.

The gallery will also serve as a collaborating space for the Texas Biennial, he said.

The gallery is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information, contact Blay at christopher.blay@tccd.edu or 817-515-3406.
