Students desiring to learn new ways to advance both personal and academic goals can participate in The Journey workshop at 7 p.m. Nov. 2 and Nov. 8 in the Energy Auditorium on TR Campus.

TR writing and learning center director Steven LeMons, who has facilitated workshops throughout the U.S. and Canada, will present strategies and tools to help students succeed in the classroom and develop life skills.

“The world has changed, and so has the expectation of academia and employers,” LeMons said. “The question is, are students of color ready for this change? If so, why is it that every year across the country, a high percentage of them enroll in college but fall off the educational radar before graduating?”

Students of color are often the first members of their family to attend college, LeMons said.

“The Journey is created to assist underserved families and students in the art of critical thinking and goal accomplishment,” he said. “The Journey takes participants beyond their comfort level while delivering the critical and empowering information needed in order to take positive action and harness personal power.”
