SE Campus will host a Diversity Awareness Festival, where the campus will celebrate and exhibit diversity in the TCC community 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 18 in the Ballroom.

The event will include exhibits as well as free food from different cultures such as Italian, Asian and Mexican.

Students can get a plate of food, eat and walk around to view the exhibits as well as meet diverse student clubs once the event begins.

“It’s a really great one-stop shop. This event exposes them to people or cultures that are different than theirs,” said Courtney Travis, a SE student development associate.

She said the last few diversity awareness events were successful because they chose hot topics like DACA and politically correct cultures. Students were into it, she said.

A panel discussion at 11:30 a.m. will tackle the opioid crisis and drug addiction.

A social worker and a drug historian will be on the panel, and a sociology faculty member will moderate. The panel hopes to educate and to give background on why college communities are in an opioid crisis, Travis said.

Drug dealers don’t always look scruffy nowadays, Travis said.

“Sometimes, they wear white coats and have degrees,” she said.
